Galactic Center of Milky Way - Time Lapse

Found this today, absolutely brilliant!

Galactic Center of Milky Way Rises over Texas Star Party from William Castleman on Vimeo.

Time lapse video of night sky as it passes over the 2009 Texas Star Party in Fort Davis, Texas. The galactic core of Milky Way is brightly displayed. Images taken with 15mm fisheye lens.

That is a really neat video, makes me wonder why can't I see stuff like that with my naked eye?

I'm sure I just need a better lens.

Just have to be out in the wilderness is all. Light pollution is mostly to blame for your not being able to see it.

That, and if the moon is out, the moonlight would obscure what you're seeing as well.

And then there's general cloud cover. But yeah- take those variables out and I bet you'd see it just fine with the unaided eye. (Unless you wear contacts ofc)
